The Lana Lang Journey - Season 5
The turning point for Lana. She has been the “victim” for five seasons, Her life constantly in danger. Everyone in her life lying to her. Protected from the real world while constantly being hurt by it. And she’s done with all of it. From the moment those meteors touch down in commencement to Vessel we see Lana’s biggest transformation. Lana is done taking the back seat and takes control of her own life. She teams up with Lex to find out the truth about what happened the day of the meteor shower. The first one took her parents from her, and the second one almost took her own life. She wanted the truth and she took risks and fought to prove she was strong enough to handle it. Lex doesn’t change Lana, he just gives her the space to find who she really is.
But the biggest moment for Lana comes in the wake of Hypnotic. When Clark tells her he doesn’t love her it breaks the little bit of her old self she was clinging to. The part that was trying to make everyone happy, the part that was trying to be perfect. The part that everyone else thought was the good Lana, the real Lana, it shattered. Who else did she have left to make happy. Why did she need to keep up that Facade if Clark was no longer interested? So in Void we see her spiral. And like she says it wasn’t just about Clark. She just realized how far she’d gone without looking back at herself. She realized what a big gap there was from who she used to be. And she had to find out who she was now. So she clung to the two people she knew would always love her, her parents. That episode is Lana’s biggest struggle. She wants them to make everything in her life better. She wants them to make it easy. But they can’t, and they never will be able to really comfort her the way she wants. So Lana begins to take the steps to find herself. She takes risks she never would have taken before. And we see a stronger, more confident Lana emerge because of it.
